As it arrived, the Sprite had had extensive metalwork done. Quite a bit of it needed to be brought up to standard and some of it just had to be worked with as it was. First step was to fix some obvious issues, clean it up, remove some suspect old primer and seal it all up properly.

Then I moved onto some filler work, fitting and aligning the front panels, improving the appalling gaps, fixing a bonnet catch issue and re sealing it in epoxy.

Then it was time for a lot of filling and sanding before it was ready to be primed with a very high build, non shrinking, polyester primer. This gives me a lot of build to really refine the shape of the car by blocking.

The poly primer was carefully blocked down with lots of attention paid to shapes and lines. Then a urethane high build primer was applied ready for the final stages of sanding.

The bodyshell was then carefully prepped underneath and inside, before seam sealing, sealer and finally some colour. BRG of course!

then the really fun stuff. Colour on the outside panels. This is single stage or direct gloss two pack paint. IE. no clear coat. The undersides of panels were painted with a stonechip protection before colour.

Even though the finish looked great it was sanded and buffed to as close to perfection as we could achieve. The wheels were also media blasted and painted before the owner collected it to reassemble it at home. I can’t wait to see this one on the road!
