The TR6 has arrived, been assessed and the stripdown has started. I’ve already uncovered a few hidden issues so stay tuned!
I’ve stripped it down and separated the body from the chassis ready for media blasting The usual assortment of old accident repairs, rust and a suspiciously thick coating of underseal have been revealed. While the chassis and shell were being blasted I got all the hanging panels stripped to bare metal.
The TR6 is back from blasting and it doesn’t make for a pretty sight unfortunately. Theres a lot of metalwork ahead but nothing that cant be taken care of. A bunch of new panels and lots of welding and it’ll be better then new.
Lots of metalwork going on. Some inhouse fabricated sections and some commercially available parts.
I’m onto the bodywork stages now. The usual process of sealing the metal with epoxy primer, doing filler work, then polyester primer, more sanding and then highbuild urethane primer for more sanding.
After far too many hours sanding the TR6 has progressed onto the paint stages. This is always such an exciting stage to see the colour start going down. Everything is seam sealed and stoneguarded as required before colour. Single stage or DG paint was used on this one ie. no clear coat..
Getting close to the home straight now. Sanding and buffing the painted panels and starting the job of reassembly.
After a lot of time spent adjusting panels, cleaning and painting or zinc plating parts and fitting them our part of this fantastic car is done. It’s gone home to be finished off by the owner.
